LoveReading Says

Having previously read I Didn’t Know What to Say, so I Just Said Thanks and I Wanted to be a Bluesman, I am already familiar with David Joseph’s concise writing style. While previous collections have had a theme running like a connecting thread though each piece (location of Spain and Portugal or the impact of Blues music) this collection is far more broad in its offering.

Focusing on capturing literary portraits, People I Know shows personal, relatable snapshots of human experience. From falling in love to losing parents, key objects from childhood to encounters with strangers. Each story creates its own distinct atmosphere. There’s a poignancy in the tragic story of ‘Sims’, a quiet stoicism in ‘Sal’ and a rebellious father son connection in ‘Stealing’.

Each short story is only a couple of pages long, perfect for taking a few minutes to read then contemplate each piece. With a collection of sixty short stories there’s plenty for fans of shorter fiction to enjoy.

About PEOPLE I KNOW

In this unique collection, David Joseph crafts more than sixty pieces of extraordinarily short fiction. They depict the author’s clarity of language, character, and ideas at their economical best, while managing to construct a literary world that feels complete despite the succinct nature of these stories. Like a gallery in an art museum, the portraits in People I Know look back at us.
