LoveReading Says

This is a joyful and celebratory book, to be dipped into or fully immerse yourself within. Commonplace books are a type of journal, favourite items from all things written including books, sayings, recipes, proverbs and songs are included. This anthology sits along a central theme (as per the author’s The Country Commonplace Book), this time celebrating all things cosy.

While this is a gorgeous standalone, it also sits perfectly alongside its sister, and I hope there are more to come as you’ll have a gorgeous collection in your hands. Cosy conjures comforting and restful, something that gives a warming hug and that is certainly the case here. Author Miranda Mills is a writer and creator, she has a bestselling blog on Substack, and can be found on Instagram and YouTube.

She describes herself as an: “unashamedly ‘cosy’ reader” and while she loves more challenging literary classics and non-fiction she firmly believes that: “reading for pure comfort and enjoyment should also be celebrated and encouraged”. This lovely book is divided into six sections, from Nature’s Tonic, to Simple Pleasures.

The calming pages of soft colours and linocuts by Debbie Powell, reinforce the cosy feel. I love the book recommendation pages, something very close to my heart. I found excerpts from favourites such as The Wind in the Willows, and Anne of Green Gables and then there were scrummy recipes including Maya Angelou’s Bread Pudding Recipe which I have to try myself.

The suggestion pages are thoughtful and kind, such as the advice in ‘How to Find Peace in Nature’. This would make a lovey gift, particularly for anyone who loves the written word. Generous and comforting The Cosy Commonplace Book thoughtfully offers a soothing balm for the soul.
