"Head back to Basgiath and enjoy the turbulent, gripping Threshing Day stories of thirteen of our favourite characters."
Threshing Day is when Basgiath War College cadets earn the right to bond a dragon, or die trying. Here we see it through the eyes of thirteen of our favourite characters, including the making of the ruthless wingleader Xaden Riorson. Discover how each rider and dragon find each other, whether they meet their match or form a partnership that balances them out.
Ridoc and Aotrom’s dynamic had me laughing out loud, being reunited with Liam bruised my still-healing heart, and Sloane’s story broke it all over again.
It’s highlighted at pertinent points within the book, but I’d recommend reading Fourth Wing, Iron Flame and Onyx Storm first. That said, Threshing Day is a companion to the series rather than a vital link in it, so you won’t miss anything if you carry on without it. It’s a treat for anyone who simply wants more time in the world of the Empyrean, and there’s plenty here to fuel your speculation about what’s coming next.
After the darker turn at the end of Onyx Storm, this is an almost escapist slice of Basgiath life, back when things were simpler: survive the Riders Quadrant until graduation, or die. Not only do we learn more about our favourite side characters, we hear more from their dragons, who are every bit as sassy, sarcastic and larger than life as you’d hope.
I'm now more curious about Molvic than ever, Aotrom is a delight and I have so many questions about Glane. The dynamic illustrations that open each chapter bring the dragons to life even further. An thrilling, hugely enjoyable collection that fans of the series will devour. You don’t need to read it, but you should.
