"This fast paced dystopian thriller is a character-driven battle for home."
This fast paced dystopian thriller is a character-driven battle for home. Set in an England that is rebuilding following civil unrest that changed everything we see the impact of a country being remade on characters from a range of different perspectives. From politicians to refugees, soldiers questioning whether they’re on the wrong side and rebels fighting for their homes.
I think the description of Flowers For The Wind as “a story of ordinary people caught inside extraordinary events” perfectly describes the character focus of this book’s writing style. I found each character’s story engaging, within the larger political climate there are struggles unique to each character that they have to overcome.
I found Davey’s story compelling, a soldier being impacted by what he’s seeing and questioning whether what he’s a part of is right. I thought Ezekiel’s grueling yet hopeful journey to England heartbreaking. I loved the bold, blunt pillar of strength of Amber. I also thought the way the dialect was portrayed was strong, it brought the characters to life in a different way, made the accent clear but was still easy to read.
Flowers For The Wind is a multi-faceted read that offers something to a wide range of readers - there’s comradeship, conflict and dystopian political intrigue delivered in a quietly hopeful package.
