"Hugely important, interesting, and inspiring, this book centres on the forest, its impact, and what can be achieved when humanity acts with more responsibility and integrity. "
This is such a fascinating read, it’s both a personal journey and sharing of knowledge centring on our forests and how important they are. Author Dr Suzanne Simard is Professor of Forest Ecology at the University of British Columbia, researching: ‘tree connectivity and communication, and its impact on the health and biodiversity of forests’.
I loved the way this is written, it is both intimate and inspiring, there is a generosity to be found within the pages. She shares her research and ‘lived experiences from 2015-2023’ which includes photos and ensures that a connection is formed as you read. I found that it helped to root me within the forest, and form a relationship with the words.
I will never forget her description of running from a forest fire and how it made me feel. The whole book in fact made me feel a wide range of emotions. I can wholeheartedly recommend joining the author as she includes you within her world and just had to include this as a LoveReading Star Book and Liz Pick of the Month.
I felt the importance of time, of thoughtful action, and how the key to protecting our forests is already within our grasp. This is one of those books I want to tell all my friends to read, as When the Forest Breathes is so wonderfully welcoming and beautifully inspiring.
