After 100 years in an artificial hibernation, one man wakes to a new world searching for old answers in this intriguing futuristic mystery. Max Bloemendaal was searching for his missing wife when he contracted an incurable illness and in one last attempt to find her again, went into the Coma Superviviente, an artificial hibernation that stops the aging process.

Now cured, Max has to get to grips with the new world he now lives in. The future isn’t what he expected and although his wife is haunting him, what happened to her remains a mystery. 2125 - The Hibernator is a compelling futuristic novel. I liked the way that modern technology is adapted for the future world in a way that’s recognisable - AI assistants, computers moving from glasses into permanent lenses.

There has been a great deal of care taken to bring 2125 to life, with the landscape, food production and social structure all integrated to create a believable setting. Speaking of believable, I found the history aspect of the storyline really interesting. The thought that everything was stored online, then lost in the great DataFade provides an authentic obstacle for Max to overcome when searching for Felice, but it is also something that could not only very feasibly happen but losing digitally stored data has probably been experienced on a smaller scale by readers already.

Max is a likeable main character, I felt his affection for his wife and how keenly he wanted to find her. I found his connection to Eve to be sweet and compelling. I would describe 2125 as an engaging sci–fi mystery, Max wakes up in an unfamiliar, futuristic world and must grapple with finding his place in it while on the hunt for answers about what happened to his wife. This would be an interesting read for mystery fans who like a sci-fi twist.
