LoveReading Says

At its heart are Elle and Danica, two woman who have lived with grief, torment and sadness. They both have connections to Ricky Fyfe and the narrative guides us through the impact Ricky has on their lives: different decades but similar torment. This isn’t a love story. It’s a reckoning.

As we move through the novel, we realise Danica isn’t just planning a wedding - she’s planning justice. As she steps deeper into Ricky’s world, she uncovers secrets buried for decades: a blood-stained dress, a hidden ring, and a truth that could shatter everything. But she’s not the only ghost from Ricky’s past.

His ex-wife Elle, long presumed dead, returns to Glasgow with a secret of her own. Teigan, Ricky’s daughter, is about to discover that the man she’s called Dad all her life isn’t who she thought he was.

The strength of this book lies in its refusal to flinch. There’s no sentimentality here, despite the devastating tragedies. Every moral decision is weighed, every betrayal felt. Alex Kane writes with clarity and compassion, giving her characters space to rage, grieve, and grow. Danica’s descent into Ricky’s empire is both terrifying and tender, and Elle’s journey back to her daughter is heartbreaking in its honesty.

This is so much more than a crime thriller: it’s a story about what it means to survive, to reclaim your identity, and to choose truth over silence.

Fans of Blood Orange or The Girl on the Train will find plenty to love here, but The Second Wife stands firmly on its own. It’s a powerful, thought-provoking read that lingers long after the final page.
