"Delightfully surprising, silly, and tender, this novel about a lesbian clown trying to seduce a successful magician is unlike anything else you’ve ever read – and you must"
I ABSOLUTELY BLOODY LOVED THIS BOOK.
Sometimes you read a book and you feel like it was written just for you. In fact, I was terribly jealous I didn’t write it myself. I don’t know what it says about me that for me, that is true of this book – about a lesbian professional clown with a thing for MILFs. It has the most insanely ballsy (pun intended?) opening chapter to any novel I’ve ever read – we meet Cherry Hendricks in the back room of the children’s party, at which Cherry had just done a very good job of clowning. Cherry is now doing a very good job of fucking the party boy’s mother, a woman who has a clown kink. When the mother asks if Cherry has a dildo, Cherry, ever the performer, pulls a retractable magic wand out of her sleeve, and then fucks her with it. Insanely, the book then just never drops this pace. It’s surprising, delightful, obviously hilarious, while the whole time also maintaining a sensitivity to Cherry’s desperations and tragedies, engaging with the struggles of trying to make people laugh as a vocation. I savoured it, I looked forward to reading this, I told all my friends about it, I sent screenshots to people – they couldn’t stop me.
