A community centred around a presbytery is forever transformed in this compelling and unexpected read. David has lived at the presbytery for as long as he can remember after his mother left him on the doorstep as a baby. But his quiet life drastically changes when a young nun named Sister Jennifer arrives to prepare to take her final vows.
With David’s life now open to significantly more opportunity I enjoyed reading as he came out of his shell. The ripples from Jennifer’s arrival are widespread, allowing a number of the characters to shine and creating a little family of sorts from this charming cast of characters that are a heartwarming joy to read about.
This domestic drama is not all plain sailing, with conflict, loss and revelations to shake the characters’ foundations before a final unexpected and explosive reveal that made my jaw drop. I had to double check it was really how it ended. ‘TORN’ is very well-written, the author does a brilliant job in getting you to emotionally invest in the characters, although a small amount of suspension of belief is required for some of the coincidences along the way.
