"A family sitcom in novel form. Life doesn’t slow down at 40. In fact it can take off, as Sally finds out."
Never mind domestic bliss, this is comic bliss for the Gen X crowd (i.e. me). As a society we’re made to believe that life gets rather more sedate as we get older. Well, for our protagonist Sally, this illusion is well and truly shattered – and in quite farcical manner. She is a semi-retired teacher whose children have flown the nest but haven’t let go of her apron strings. Her quiet existence is disrupted when her son, Dan, returns home. Indeed, his arrival brings with it a collection of friends and exes, turning her house and life upside down. Fun, light-hearted and full of witty observations, this is an excellent pick-me-up. What’s more, it’s published by the wonderful independent press Bluemoose who is always worth checking out.
