Manon Bradshaw of Missing, Presumed is back only she is now pregnant, attached to the Cambridgeshire police but working on cold cases until a murder occurs close to the school her adopted son attends. He is arrested for it. He is 12-years old. Written in alternative chapters between herself and a man who was once her junior, DS Davy Walker and a good friend, we follow the detail of police procedure over thirty-two days, straddling Christmas. Davy gives us the detail, Manon the family drama, spotted in between is the odd narrative from a few suspects, and others involved. It is both riveting and fascinating. Manon’s adopted son is black, so lots of problems in Cambridgeshire. Manon shares a house with her single mum sister and the girl’s autistic (although no-one says so), 2-year old toddler, Solomon. The boy’s father reappears and wants contact with his son which complicates the story, a story full of twists. Great stuff. ~ Sarah Broadhurst

  • Laura Nazmdeh - 'A great follow up to Missing, Presumed; perhaps more of a slow burner but multiple narrators and high stakes for Manon means plenty of mystery and intrigue. Plus the writing is, as ever, excellent!'
  • Phylippa Smithson - 'This was like putting a perfect fitting glove on – I love the flowing yet engaging style of Steiner’s crime writing and the wicked sense of humour of her lead DI.'
  • Elaine Lowe - 'Realistic characters, a crime with a gripping plot add up to make a satisfying read. Crime writing at its best.'
  • Lynn Pettitt - 'I found it an easy read, I read it in a long rainy afternoon.'
  • Sue Burton - 'This is a great police procedural novel that encompasses a love story with a twist.'
  • Kerry Bridges - 'All in all, this follow up didn't grab me as much as the first novel .'
  • Mandy Carver - 'I haven't read any other books by Susie Steiner before, but I will definitely be doing so now!'
  • Emily Curnow - 'a compulsive read and touches on many aspects that are neglected in other crime novels. Highly recommended.'
  • Alfred Nobile - 'This was a superb book...a multifaceted tale told from different perspectives and grips from the start...A 5 star read for me.'
  • Angie Rhodes - Dusk is falling as a young man falls to the ground, blood seeping from a stab wound.  With his dying breath, cradled in a woman's arms, he says one word "Sas".   This is the start of a nightmare for Manon Bradshaw.
  • Sabine Little - 'Susie Steiner’s second book featuring DI Manon Bradshaw builds seamlessly on the success of Missing, Presumed, and is a very enjoyable way to spend a few hours.'
  • Natasha Motton - 'Compelling thriller that grabs you from the first page and drags you into a complicated investigation that leaves everyone questioning who they can trust and who is hiding sinister secrets.'
  • Cathy Small - 'A light hearted thriller that will keep you entertained as you read.'
  • Kathryn Eastman - 'A darker, more addictive read, Steiner’s brilliantly written Manon Bradshaw series gets personal when a murder case threatens characters and relationships so well established in Missing, Presumed.'
  • Lyn Barrett - 'Susie Steiner impresses us all last year with Missing, Presumed and she has certainly not disappointed with the next in the DI Manon Bradshaw series, Persons Unknown.'
  • Carol Attridge - 'It’s an Intelligent read but not gripping as promised in the back cover.'

Praise for Persons Unknown:

'Susie Steiner goes from strength to strength: Persons Unknown is by turns tense and tender, gripping and moving, and always beautifully written. I didn't read this book so much as live it: DI Manon Bradshaw is so convincingly human that I often wonder what she's up to now

'It's even better than Missing, Presumed. It's ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. It's the best thing I've read in months and months. So intelligent about men and women and children, and love or the lack of it, and about LIFE... and the writing!'

'A second adventure that strikes all the right notes - layered mystery, incisive cultural context, and a delightful protagonist who deserves a place alongside other beloved literary detectives'
