Lovereading view...

Walking in the footsteps of Stephen King, Lotz follows up on her impressive horror breakthrough The Three with yet another literal descent into unimaginable dread with this gripping tale of the cruise from hell (or should it be into hell?). Definitely not recommended if you are planning a forthcoming cruise (as am I!) as the breakdown of the mighty vessel, in this case off the coast of Mexico, quickly turns into the stuff of nightmares as seen through the eyes of a dubious psychic’s assistant, a sex fiend at loose on the boat, a Philipino maid, two old ladies contemplating suicide, a security officer and a South African doctor in disgrace, amongst a plethora of passengers and crew caught up in the slow passage from normality to chaos, which Lotz is clever enough never to explain fully, leaving the reader suspended by a thread to the fabric of irreality. Chilling stuff. ~ Maxim Jakubowski

  • Neil Williams - 'An intriguing tale of paranormal events on a cruise liner. Very well told and gripping.'
  • Sallyann Spittle - 'The pace of the book could be faster, however this is a book which really comes into itself in its entirety. The ending won me over like few others have done.'
  • Gavin Dimmock - 'It is an enjoyable enough story and I urge you to give it a go and decide for yourself. However, throughout the book, I kept wondering how it could have been handled in the hands of someone like Stephen King.'
  • Karin Gibson - 'This book grabs you by the throat, shakes you up and leaves you feeling slightly uneasy. I read it in under 24 hours, unputdownable. A five star read!'
  • Rachel Aygin - 'The more I read on the more I felt compelled to find out the answers.  An unusual and eerie read.'
  • Sarah Musk - 'A really scary thriller set aboard a cruise ship.  If you love being terrified and tormented by the inexplicable and the unpleasant, then this is the book for you.'
  • Jacki Moorcroft - 'A gripping read from page one. Sarah Lotz takes us on board the Beautiful Dreamer cruise liner, once there, using the accounts of the passengers and crew she sets the scene for this thrilling book.'
  • Zarina de Ruiter - 'Day Four was an utterly creepy, twisted and completely unexpected read and I need more right now!'
  • Stacie Ball - 'Strange, creepy and fast paced.'
  • Tania - 'A dark thriller and a real page turner.'

  • Angela Rhodes - 'Think Lost meets the scariest movie you have seen and you have the great new book by Sarah Lotz.'
  • Edel Waugh - 'This was a scary book to read as most of this could easily happen making it even more terrifying! Loved it!'

Synopsis

Day Four by Sarah Lotz

Sarah Lotz's extraordinary, unmissable follow-up to the book that made headlines around the world, THE THREE - perfect for fans of The Shining Girls, The Passage and Lost. Four days into a five day singles cruise on the Gulf of Mexico, the ageing ship Beautiful Dreamer stops dead in the water. With no electricity and no cellular signals, the passengers and crew have no way to call for help. But everyone is certain that rescue teams will come looking for them soon. All they have to do is wait. That is, until the toilets stop working and the food begins to run out. When the body of a woman is discovered in her cabin the passengers start to panic. There's a murderer on board the Beautiful Dreamer...and maybe something worse.
