The story of a life well lived, a great love and a beautiful horse. Henrietta Knight's memoir of a life with horses also encompasses her enduring love for husband, Terry Biddlecombe and Best Mate, the great horse they trained together. She is frank and often funny, passionate about horses and their care and training and unbelievably poignant as she recalls the death of her husband and the effort to live on after him. ~ Sue Baker

Synopsis

Not Enough Time by Henrietta Knight

This is the rollercoaster story of a great love, between racehorse trainer Henrietta Knight and her husband, Terry Biddlecombe, a hell-raising ex-champion jockey, with two failed marriages and a history of alcoholism behind him. It is a story of triumph over tragedy, as together they reached the pinnacle of success in National Hunt racing and trained Best Mate to win three Cheltenham Gold Cups.

It is also a tale of tragedy over triumph, which saw the great horse die at Hen's feet on Exeter racecourse and Terry passing away far too young, in 2014. Hen and Terry were called the odd couple because of their different backgrounds and lifestyles, but their love for each other was to produce one of the most endearing modern day racing romances. Here, in Hen's own moving, humorous, courageous words, is their story, told in full for the very first time.

Reviews

'I read the book in one night, gripped. Yes, it's sentimental, but it's beautifully written, funny and tear-jerking and a reminder never to give up on true love'
Country Life

. 'Those who enjoy romantic fiction will treasure this book all the more for the fact their story was very real indeed
Racing Post

. 'Knight's latest book gives a glimpse into the life that she shared with her great love Terry Biddlecombe ... The beautifully written narrative feels truly honest and flows in a way that makes it seem as though Hen is there, telling you the story personally
Horse and Hound

. 'A very readable book about a proper racing love story and, with Christmas not far away, would be an ideal gift for any racing fan
Racing Post Weekender

. 'A brilliant account of [Knight's] marriage with Terry Biddlecombe ... I recommend this book
The Sun

. 'Open and immensely readable
The Times

. 'A love story in the real sense of those words ... It is funny, it is searingly honest, it is brave and it is moving. Anybody who can read either the prologue or the conclusion of Not Enough Time without a moistness in the eye must have something other than blood flowing through their veins
Robin Oakley, The Spectator

. 'Although essentially a human story, Knight recalls golden memories of Best Mate's Cheltenham treble plus relating in tear-jerking fashion their superstar's death at Exeter in 2005. Sure to be popular with racing fans, who took the couple to their hearts
Oxford Times

. 'The rollercoaster story of a great love between Henrietta and Biddlecombe. It is a story of triumph and tragedy in equal measures
East Anglian Daily Times

. 'As much a love story as a memoir ... Knight writes movingly about their unexpected joy together and the emptiness and loss it left behind
Observer (2015 Books of the Year)
