Nos4r2 by Joe Hill

Sarah Broadhurst's view...

A complex and exciting tale of fear, love, magic, motherhood, courage and horror. The title is perhaps a little too clever but it is the number plate of the car driven by a man well over a hundred years old with a passion for stealing children. A kidnapping forms the heart of the story, of course, but when her child has been taken in a car that can drive beyond reality by a man the police know to be dead, there is nothing for Vic to do but follow. And she knows something about moving beyond reality herself. There is a lot of magic in this book but it’s the kind you can almost believe when you catch glimpses of something from the corner of your eye. Thrilling and, of course, terrifying.

If you like Joe Hill you might also like to read books by Clive Barker, Dan Simmons and Stephen King.

Synopsis

Nos4r2 by Joe Hill

Summer. Massachusetts. An old Silver Wraith with a frightening history. A story about one serial killer and his lingering, unfinished business. Anyone could be next. We're going to Christmasland...NOS4R2 is an old-fashioned horror novel in the best sense. Claustrophobic, gripping and terrifying, this is a story that will have you on the edge of the seat while you read, and leaving the lights on while you sleep. With the horrific tale of Charles Manx and his Silver Wraith, Joe Hill (@joe_hill) has established himself as the premiere horror and supernatural thriller writer of his generation.

Reviews

'This is a book that starts with a bang and then relentlessly builds. Joe managed to make my skin crawl in the first chapter, turning what should be a time for celebration into something decidedly creepy. At the mid-point of a lengthy book it became near un-putdownable, in that horrifying 'can't look away from a car crash kind of way. Although the details are dark and even horrible, the narrative pull is relentless and unstoppable.'
