Sarah Broadhurst's view...

The sequel to The String Diaries which you just have to read before tackling this, not necessarily to understand this, for you are given a lot of background, but this is so much better with the knowledge of the first. It is fifteen years later and Leah now takes centre stage. She and her mother are attempting to keep shape-shifters (hosszu elet) alive, a dying race that badly needs help. Once again we are taken back to 1870’s Hungary and on into 1920’s New York as well as the present in a tale that is every bit as good as the first only a tad slower to really heat up. We finish with the hope of more to come which is thrilling. We revisit old characters and are introduced to some new ones but all the way through we are presented with that feeling of danger. Jakab’s younger brother is our threat here – but I’ll say no more, just read it.

If you like Stephen Lloyd Jones you might also like to read books by Jonathan Aycliffe, John Twelve Hawks and Elizabeth Kostova.

Synopsis

Written in the Blood by Stephen Lloyd Jones

High in the mountains of the Swiss Alps Leah Wilde is about to gamble her life to bring a powerful man an offer. A promise. Leah has heard the dark stories about him and knows she is walking into the lion's den. But her options are running out. Her rare lineage, kept secret for years, is under terrible threat. That is, unless Leah and her mother Hannah are prepared to join up with their once deadly enemies. Should the prey ever trust the predator? Is hope for future generations ever enough to wash away the sins of the past? With a new and chilling danger stalking them all, and the survival of their society at stake, they may have little choice...
