Last Winter We Parted by Fuminori Nakamura

Sarah Broadhurst's view...

This is the third novel to be translated by cult Japanese writer Fuminori Nakamura and it's brilliant. Exquisitely written, taut and gripping, this is a clever, literary mystery, the genre at its finest. Told partly in first person by a young writer who is trying to write a book about a sensational, horrific crime before the murderer is executed and partly in the murderer's letters and notes, little by little a complex and fascinating truth is revealed. Tantalisingly good.
