Monument to Murder by Mari Hannah

Sarah Broadhurst's view...

This is the fourth in the underrated series featuring Northern DCI Kate Daniels and readers new to it should start with The Murder Wall. It is deep winter and Daniels is forced to relocate from Newcastle to Alnwick when skeletal remains are found on the beach (which puts inevitable strain on her will they, won’t they relationship with Jo). At the same time a chilling subplot sees a vulnerable prison psychologist be lured and manipulated by a brutal sex offender. Gradually and unsettlingly the plots begin to merge as the body count begins to rise. Mari Hannah’s novels are excellent and fans of darker police procedurals will love them.

If you like Mari Hannah you might also like to read books by Mark Billingham, Kerry Wilkinson and Ann Cleeves.

Who is Sarah Broadhurst

The Good Book Guide logo The Good Book Guide Review. Over the course of several novels, Mari Hannah has proved herself to be one of the most accomplished of modern crime writers. This is one of the most sheerly enjoyable of her books. A skeleton is discovered beneath the fortified walls of an old castle in Northumberland. In order to identify the body, DCI Kate Daniels enlists the aid of a forensic anthropologist. At the same time, prison psychologist Emily McCann (who has just lost her husband) finds herself dangerously inveigled into a convicted sex offender’s fantasy, with disturbing mind games the unpleasant order of the day. Another resolute winner from the talented Hannah.

About the Author

Mari Hannah

Mari Hannah was born in London and moved north as a child. Sponsored by the Home Office, she graduated from Teesside University before becoming a Probation Officer, a career cut short when she was injured while on duty. Thereafter, she spent several years working as a film/television scriptwriter. During that time she created and developed a number of projects, most notably a feature length film and the pilot episode of a crime series for television based on the characters in her book, the latter as part of a BBC drama development scheme. She lives in Northumberland with her partner, an ex-murder detective. In 2010, she won the Northern Writers' Award. The Murder Wall is her debut novel.

Mari Hannah was awarded the CWA 2017 Dagger in the Library, a prize for a body of work by a crime writer that users of libraries particularly admire.
