Sarah Broadhurst's view...

The final book in this lovely series which can all be read alone. They follow the adventures of Brendan Prescott, personal spy to Elizabeth I, protégé of Walsingham. Elizabeth is now on the throne. She sends Prescott off to Yorkshire to find a close friend and confidante, one Lady Parry who turns out to have been kidnapped. The tale then gets very involved and tangled, much of it stretching belief but oh such fun. Mixing fact and fiction and although a much written-about period, this series is well worth investing in.

If you like Christopher Gortner you might also like to read books by C J Sansom, S J Parris and C C Humphries.

Synopsis

The Tudor Vendetta by Christopher Gortner

November, 1558: Elizabeth I has ascended the throne but the first days of her reign are already fraught with turmoil, the kingdom weakened by past strife and her ability to rule uncertain. When Brendan Prescott, her intimate spy, returns to court at the new queen's behest, he soon finds himself thrust into a deadly gambit against his old foe, Robert Dudley. But Elizabeth has an even more dangerous assignation in store for him when her favoured lady-in-waiting, Lady Parry, vanishes in Yorkshire. Sent from court to a crumbling manor that may hold the key to Lady Parry's disappearance, Brendan becomes the quarry of an elusive stranger with a vendetta- one that could expose both Brendan's own secret past and a long-hidden mystery that will bring about Elizabeth's doom.

It's the first site that I visit when deciding on the next set of books to buy. A particular treat is being able to download an extract.
