Sue Baker's view...

A transfer from blog to book for Scarfolk, the town and its people condemned forever to live in the 1970’s. As you can imagine this is terrifying and a view of the website suggests that living in Stalinist Russia might be preferable. Richard Littler’s visuals are brilliant parodies on the real thing - turning winsome family ads into poster propaganda for sending body parts through the mail just one example, the text a sly comment on over-heated public announcements and directives.

Synopsis

Discovering Scarfolk by Richard Littler

Scarfolk is a town in north-west England that did not progress beyond 1979. Instead, the entire decade of the 1970s loops ad infinitum. In Scarfolk, pagan rituals blend seamlessly with science, children must not be seen or heard, and everyone has to be in bed by 8 p.m. because they are perpetually running a slight fever. A massive cult hit online, Scarfolk re-creates with startling accuracy the darkest childhood memories of the 1970s, all in shiver-inducing visual form. It's surreal, clever and extremely funny.

I love reading because my cares & woes vanish for an hour or two whilst I read of the joys, adventures, lives of the characters in the book.
