The third in this excellent series featuring Constable Charles Horton of the River Police. He is investigating strange goings-on in a grand house in Surrey where the locals fear witchcraft is afoot. Then a group of powerful men who call themselves the Sybarites start dying. These men indulge in feasting, drinking and orgies with prostitutes and Horton has to handle both cases. The link and solution is ingenious and once again the author has given us a highly satisfying puzzle to solve, one that could easily have two answers. Wonderful stuff.
