Bad Blood by Dana Stabenow

Sarah Broadhurst's view...

Alaskan-based detective series of which this is number 19(!) so lots of irritating background you don’t know about and are not told. As far as the plot is concerned it doesn’t really matter. What is fascinating here is the amount of venomous hatred there is between two tribes on opposite sides of a river. One side, all related, relies on the river for its livelihood and is therefore poor, the other side has a gold mine on its doorstep. A body is found on each side which naturally heralds war. How the police, Kate Shugak and Trooper Jim Chopin, hold the two sides apart is remarkable, with a surprising ending.

Bad Blood by Dana Stabenow

Bad blood comes to the fore when star-crossed love ends in murder...One hundred years of bad blood between two Alaskan villages come to a boil when a young Kushtaka man is found dead. The prime suspect is a Kuskulana man, already in trouble in both villages for falling in love across the divide. But now he's disappeared and a second killing looks suspiciously like payback. Kate Shugak must untangle the village tales of tragedy and revenge in order to find the truth before it's too late...
