The Long Way Home by Louise Penny

Sarah Broadhurst's view...

There is a mystery and a killing but they are almost incidental to the beautifully told story of a missing man, Peter. Those familiar with this series will enjoy being back in Three Pines, Canada. Those new need not fear, you can start here and then enjoy the rest. They feature retired police officer Armand Gamache who here is approached by an old friend to find her artist husband. We go from art college to Rome, Venice, Scotland and back to Toronto as the mystery thickens. With beautiful descriptions of the area round the St Laurence River and Three Pines, and its effect on anyone lucky enough to go there, this is in part a love story with many a twist.

Former Chief Inspector of Homicide, Armand Gamache, has found a peace he'd never imagined possible, away from the front line of the police and in the tranquil village of Three Pines. Or in searching for answers, has he placed himself, and those closest to him, in terrible danger ...From number one New York Times bestselling author, Louise Penny, comes an evocative, immersive novel brimming with atmosphere and heart-stopping suspense -- her most ingenious novel to date.
