Sarah Broadhurst's view...

Roberta Kray rivals Martina Cole as the UK’s best gritty crime author and this is as fun and fast-moving as fans would expect. Ava is a really believable heroine and seeing the East End crime world through her (and Roberta Kray’s) eyes is thrilling and at times seems scarily real.

If you like Roberta Kray you might also like to read books by Lynda La Plante, Martina Cole and Mandasue Heller.

Synopsis

Streetwise by Roberta Kray

Ava Gold's employment options are rapidly shrinking and, not wanting to go back to driving minicabs, she lands herself a trial run at being nightclub owner Chris Street's personal driver. Chris is one of the men about town in Kellston, East London, and is initially suspicious of having a female driver, but Ava soon proves her worth, and beyond. Still, working for one of the notorious Streets - who have a past history of violence reaching back to the boom time of the sixties - is never going to be easy. Chris' ex-wife is newly involved with his worst enemy and his younger brother Danny and his crazy girlfriend are up to something that will pull Ava into a world of blackmail, murder, sex and greed...

Reviews

A Cole-esque, addictive read... expect a healthy dose of the kidnapping, blackmail and murder that no East End novel would be complete without * London Lite * Written by the widow of Reggie Kray, one of the East End's most notorious gangsters, this has an authenticity and insight to it that many other thrillers don't * Candis * Well into Martina Cole territory * Independent * A cracking good read * Jessie Keane *
