The Riot by Laura Wilson

Lovereading view...

An Inspector Stratton novel of racial tension and murder in Notting Hill, London, in 1958. Teddy boys stand on the street corners seething with malice and hatred for the Caribbean immigrants. The atmosphere is electric as intrigue after intrigue litter these pages. We have the powerful, the wealthy, the slum landlords, the pimps and the wheeler/dealers. Stratton’s involvement begins with a rent collector being shot dead, then a stabbing adds to his problems. This is a beautifully constructed jigsaw puzzle of a book, it is part of a series but on its own is quite magnificent.

If you like Laura Wilson you might also like to read books by Jacqueline Winspear, Andrew Taylor and Benjamin Black.
