For more than four years, the @TwopTwips twitter account has been spewing forth ridiculous yet ingenious gobbets of advice to its thousands of loyal followers, often causing them to involuntarily snort with laughter on commuter trains whilst fellow passengers tut and shake their heads. Those fellow passengers are missing out. It is one of the highest followed non-celebrity twitter accounts in the UK, and The Times Magazine placed @TwopTwips sixth in its list of the funniest tweeters in the English-speaking world. David Harris is the curator of @TwopTwips, as well as working for popular humour website The Poke.
Life doesn't come with an instruction manual. But if it did, and if that manual was cobbled together in five minutes by a drunken idiot-genius, then it might look something like these crowd-sourced tips and ill-thought-out ideas. Covering everything from how best to turn your cat into a fearsome stegosaurus to pre-empting jellyfish stings, this book presents the wealth of knowledge gleaned from the dusty vaults of twitter's hugely popular @TwopTwips. From the profane to the ridiculous, these laugh-at-loud nuggets of advice, with absurd and informative illustrations, will change your life in a hugely insignificant way. Tips include: BORED of a friend's text messages? Reply with 'unsubscribe' and they'll get the hint; SPICE up a boring salad by replacing the vegetables with bacon and placing between two slices of bread; STOP your dog from pulling on its lead by walking a bit faster; PREPARE your children for office life by acting awkwardly around them in the kitchen; and, AVOID the hassle and expense of hair straighteners by not eating your crusts.

';Quizas,' she said. ';Perhaps. It takes the subjunctive case.'A light-bulb moment of course it does. It expresses something uncertain, imagined, unreal with words like possibly, maybe or ';once upon a time'. While some of the poems in this book were triggered by real events, others are pure imagination. Many have been presented within the folk scene, where poetry must be understandable and, hopefully, funny. Some are simple reporting of amazing, but real, events. Others stretch into the supernatural. Some pick up on the quirky, such as fortuitous misspelling or parody of the well-known. And, of course, there are poems of love and loss. In this volume you will find poems to make you laugh or make you cry, poems which will match your mood, or change it, and poems to simply relax with.
1960 saw the dawn of an era of unprecedented innovation and development in farm machinery. It was a period of rapid technical advancement, that produced machines which are the mainstay of the current very buoyant vintage tractor restoration movement. At the start of the decade, spark-ignition Standard Fordson tractors still occasionally required repair; by the end of the decade, the Fordson Diesel Major had been replaced by the Ford 1000 series. The history of these iconic brands is well-known; Oily Hands and the Smell of Diesel gives an alternative view - the inside story of the agricultural machinery repair trade. First employed as an apprentice, then moving his way up to an engineer, David Harris gives an entertaining, informative and personal account of his time spent at a Ford main tractor dealership, working on Ford, Fordson, County, Roadless and Muirhill tractors, Chaseside loaders, Claas combines and New Holland and Jones balers amongst others. Including many historical photographs, David describes the technical challenges in detail, and tells of the ups and downs of life in the workshop and out in the field. This book will be a must-read for anyone who is or was involved in the machinery industry; anyone looking to restore or repair vintage agricultural machinery and anyone with a general interest in farming and machinery history.
When His Royal Highness Prince Philip and Colonel Sir Michael Ansell devised Prince Philip Mounted Games for The Pony Club in the UK in the 1950s it is doubtful they could have envisaged the growth and spread of the discipline throughout the Pony Club movement world-wide. The subsequent formation of the International Mounted Games Association saw the discipline's interpretation include individual, pairs and team events for young and older riders alike. David Harris came to horses later in life through his daughters' love of horses. He particularly enjoyed the team environment of Pony Club Mounted Games and subsequently coached teams at club, state and national levels within the Pony Club movement. This book aims to assist coaches, instructors and riders new to equestrian mounted games to enjoy mounted games. The can do this now with the benefit of David's analysis of suggested preconditions for participation in mounted games and his analysis of safety controls/drills and techniques recommended in this exciting sport.

SystemVerilog and VHDL are integrated throughout the text in examples illustrating the methods and techniques for CAD-based circuit design. The companion website includes a chapter on I/O systems with practical examples that show how to use the Raspberry Pi computer to communicate with peripheral devices such as LCDs, Bluetooth radios, and motors. This book will be a valuable resource for students taking a course that combines digital logic and computer architecture or students taking a two-quarter sequence in digital logic and computer organization/architecture.
Created by acclaimed musician Dave Stewart (Eurythmics)They say that New Yorkers have seen everything. But that was before New York City was hit by a zombie infestation, destroying the city, and killing most of its inhabitants. Now the President and all his men have to solve this zombie problem before it hits the rest of the country. Dropping a bomb on the city seems like the only solution, until the mayor of New York comes up with a last ditch effort: put on a Zombie Broadway! Crazy? Well, not completely. Seems like zombies aren't so different from other New Yorkers. After all, they appreciate the theater. In fact, music seems to be one of the few things that can tame the flesh-eating undead beings. And what better place than New York City to put on the show of a lifetime? Just keep your fingers crossed that the audience isn't eaten during the performance...
In the aftermath of explosive civil wars in Africa during the 1990s and 2000s, the establishment of multi-party elections has often been heralded by the West as signaling the culmination of the conflict and the beginning of a period of democratic rule. However, the outcomes of these elections are very rarely uniform, with just as many countries returning to conflict as not. Here, David Harris uses the examples of Sierra Leone and Liberia to examine the nexus of international and domestic politics in these post-conflict elections. In doing so, he comes to the conclusion that it is political, rather than legal, solutions that are more likely to enhance any positive political change that has emerged from the violence. This book is thus of significance to Western and African policy makers, and also to students and scholars who wish to engage with the critical issues of conflict resolution and reconciliation both in Sierra Leone and Liberia in particular and in the wider region in general.
Digital Design and Computer Architecture, Second Edition, takes a unique and modern approach to digital design, introducing the reader to the fundamentals of digital logic and then showing step by step how to build a MIPS microprocessor in both Verilog and VHDL. This new edition combines an engaging and humorous writing style with an updated and hands-on approach to digital design. It presents new content on I/O systems in the context of general purpose processors found in a PC as well as microcontrollers found almost everywhere. Beginning with digital logic gates and progressing to the design of combinational and sequential circuits, the book uses these fundamental building blocks as the basis for the design of an actual MIPS processor. It provides practical examples of how to interface with peripherals using RS232, SPI, motor control, interrupts, wireless, and analog-to-digital conversion. SystemVerilog and VHDL are integrated throughout the text in examples illustrating the methods and techniques for CAD-based circuit design. There are also additional exercises and new examples of parallel and advanced architectures, practical I/O applications, embedded systems, and heterogeneous computing, plus a new appendix on C programming to strengthen the connection between programming and processor architecture. This new edition will appeal to professional computer engineers and to students taking a course that combines digital logic and computer architecture.

`Social theory is a very difficult subject to teach and it is one that students generally find hard to get to grips with. Teaching Yourself Social Theory offers a highly original and comprehensive resource that will be welcomed by students and teachers alike' - Barry Smart, University of Portsmouth `I have no hesitation in recommending Harris' text to students and teachers of social theory' - Sociology This refreshing and accessible text demonstrates how social theory can be made into an intelligible discourse that touches upon key aspects of everyday life. The abstraction and formalism of much contemporary social theory is criticized as unnecessarily `scholastic' for the beginner. The author maintains that the main problems in studying the subject are not intrinsic to social theory, but derive from how the subject is taught as a university discipline. This lively book uses non-specialist terms to introduce more complex themes, and incorporates a Website with questions and reading guides to some of the classic works.
