Conversations With The Little Girl Within

Conversations With The Little Girl Within

Author: Shirley Williams Format: eBook Release Date: 07/12/2017

Painful experiences from childhood often shape the way we grow and develop as adults. Many children are not provided with the necessary tools and outlets for dealing with negative circumstances at home, which causes unhealthy coping methods to form and wounds from these past traumas to stay unhealed. While growing up with a mother who was emotionally and physically abusive, Shirley Williams did everything in her power to remain open to her world of opportunity, but she couldn't seem to escape the burden from the belief that her mother didn't love her. Once an adult, she learned that she could slowly chip away at the hurt that had built up, and she decided to face her wounded inner child to finally set her free. At the same time touching and informative, Conversations with the Little Girl Within is one woman's inspirational example of how you can overcome your suffering from your adverse childhood experiences, move forward with a renewed understanding of the relationships that affected you growing up, and rewrite the script for your adulthood.

God and Caesar Personal Reflections on Politics and Religion

God and Caesar Personal Reflections on Politics and Religion

Author: Shirley Williams Format: Paperback / softback Release Date: 01/04/2004

Shirley Williams explores the relationship between Christian teaching, the Church and public life in the modern world. A central theme is the way in which the traditional structures of pre-industrial society have been transformed by modern progress and, consequently, human beings have been distanced from God and his natural world. Williams discusses the current cynicism about politicians and the political process, the prevailing crisis in the priesthood, and the new roles that have opened up for women in the Catholic Church. She also considers the effects of globalisation in the twenty-first century and argues that in the wake of September 11, there is a cultural and social gulf between countries that support and harbour terrorism and our own pragmatic, relativistic, secular societies. She discusses the religious and ethical considerations that are relevant to the struggle against terrorism, and sets out the basis of an international legal and moral order which alone can settle global conflicts and constitute the basis for a lasting peace. God and Caesar is an immediately relevant work for modern society by one of Britain's most respected figures.
