Joseph Teller was born and raised in New York City. After graduating from University of Michigan Law School, he returned to New York City and spent three years working undercover for the Federal Bureau of Narcotics.
For the next thirty-five years, he worked as a criminal defense attorney representing murderers, drug dealers, thieves and at least one serial killer. When New York State restored the death penalty in the nineties, Teller was one of a select group of lawyers given special training to represent capital defendants, which he did on several occasions, including winning an acquittal for a man accused of committing a double murder.
Not too long ago, Teller decided to “run from the law” and began writing fiction. The Tenth Case, his first novel for MIRA Books, will be followed by additional “Jaywalker” cases. Teller lives in upstate New York with his wife, an antiques dealer.
July 2009 Book of the Month. An American legal thriller with a difference for it stars a clever but disillusioned man who has the feel of an Old Bailey hack to him. He is poor but due to his ability and unorthodox approach, is successful with his acquittals (nine on the trot) but he has fallen foul of the judges because of the ‘strokes’ he pulls and is due to be suspended for three years once he has finished his tenth case … I’m not telling you any more – just read it. It’s very good. Comparison: John Grisham, Mark Gimenez, Steve Martini. To view a video trailer for this title, click the screen below.
