This is a wonderful coming-of-age novel that every teenage boy will empathise with, and every teenage girl will glean insight from. Whilst constructing a moving narrative, the novel also explores a number of issues, including single parenthood, absentee fathers, truancy and bullying. Fish in the Sky truly captures the difficult but exciting transition from adolescence to adulthood. A book that will provoke the reader to both laughter and tears in equal measure.
Josh Stephensons thirteenth year starts with a baf#64258;ing sequence of events. His seventeen-year-old girl cousin moves into his house, making his bedroom a corridor, he devises a truancy plan to escape the embarrassment he suffers at school, and his estranged father sends him a stuffed falcon for his birthday. And on top of all that, hes in love but wondering if dreams of love can ever come true. Josh goes to his secret hollow on the beach, a rocky outcropping along Icelands rugged coast, to try to work out if his life is being sucked into a black hole or if this is just being thirteen. Written with passion and humor, this coming-of-age novel explores the juxtaposition of teenage angst and ecstasy.
