Compelling and addictive really don’t do The Hunt by Tim Lebbon justice and while the subject matter of the book, humans hunting other humans for sport, is pretty distasteful I challenge anyone to not romp through the book desperate to find out more. Chris returns from a morning run to find his house empty apart from a stranger saying he has 50 minutes to get ready. Friends won’t answer the phone and after dialing 9...9... he is confronted with a video link of his wife and daughters being held hostage. He's told to run. If he's caught and killed, his family go free. If he escapes, they die. Then he meets Rose who is the only person to escape the hunt … but she has paid a terrible price. Breathlessly exciting and over too quickly!
In the darkness of a underground cave system, blind creatures hunt by sound. Then there is light, there are voices, and they feed... Swarming from their prison, the creatures thrive and destroy. To scream, even to whisper, is to summon death. As the hordes lay waste to Europe, a girl watches to see if they will cross the sea. Deaf for many years, she knows how to live in silence; now, it is her family's only chance of survival. To leave their home, to shun others, to find a remote haven where they can sit out the plague. But will it ever end? And what kind of world will be left?
