Das Unterfangen ist äußert riskant und nimmt den Astronauten wertvolle Zeit für die Sammlung der Gesteinsproben.
Apollo 18 startet. Die Astronauten sind von der Wirklichkeit des Alls überwältigt. Als sie bei Almaz ankommen, müssen sie entsetzt feststellen, dass die Station bemannt ist – plötzlich stehen ihnen russische Kosmonauten gegenüber, noch dazu ist die Kommunikation zur Erde ausgefallen. Der KGB informiert sich über die amerikanischen Astronauten und entdeckt, dass Chad russischer Herkunft ist – ein Waisenkind, das nach dem Krieg von einem amerikanischen Ehepaar adoptiert wurde. Sein Bruder ist Pater Ilarion in der orthodoxen Kirche in Berlin, die Brüder stehen in Kontakt. Das KGB beordert Ilarion nach Moskau, er soll seinen Bruder im All unter Druck setzen: Er soll ihnen einen bestimmten Stein bringen – einen Stein, der radioaktiv gemessen wurde, was sie Chad allerdings verschweigen. Kaz und sein Team sind durch die neue Situation angespannt. Einige nicht erklärte Klicks im Mikrofon der Apollo irritieren ihn. Fest steht: Einer der drei Astronauten in der Apollo 18 könnte für die anderen Crew-Mitglieder äußerst gefährlich werden …"
