Frederick Pohl & C.M. Kornbluth: SEARCH THE SKY
"Ross was a junior trader on Halsey's Planet, and had great prospects but was not happy at all. Everything smelled of decay. The whole planet seemed to be slowly disappearing, the population dwindling month by month and year by year and yet no one seemd to care or even notice. Something was very, very wrong. When the first interstellar transport in 30 years arrived on Halsey's Planet, it brought things to a head. The ship had touched on six other colony worlds - and all six had been devoid of human life. Where was everybody? It was almost as if humankind, when separated by cosmic distances from Mother Earth, could not survive. He didn't know the answer but he knew it all smelled highly of decay. Decay and Rot. This highly praised novel by C.M.Kornbluth and Frederick Pohl was first published in 1954 was seen as a wonderful satire on various trends in the society of the 1950's."

"In this story an advertising man named Barlow is transported to the distant future. Everything looks nifty and really futuristic but things don't add up. The amazing looking cars with literal rockets coming out of their rear ends just poke along while making loud rocket noises; the daily 'moon rocket' looks suspiciously like a plane as it crosses the sky. People on the street literally cannot tell when it is safe to cross the street and the newspapers are written in words of one syllable and one column. On the other hand the noise is loud and constant especially the advertisements that flash all around the sky and street. Barlow is confused of course because this is the future where things look advanced but just don't work that way. What has happened to society? Why is this seem like a world inhabited by morons? Listen to this quirky story and find out what has happened to society and how it is kept running."

C. M. Kornbluth: 4 of His Best Science Fiction Stories
"Four nifty Science Fiction stories from the warped mind of C. M. Kornbluth. These are my pick for his best. - The Adventurer For every evil under the sun, there's an answer. It may be a simple, direct answer; it may be one that takes years, and seems unrelated to the problem. But there's an answer—of a kind.... - The Altar at Midnight Doing something for humanity may be fine—for humanity—but rough on the individual! - With These Hands No self-respecting artist can object to suffering for his art ... but not in a society where art is outdated by technology! - The Marching Morons. In the country of the blind, the one-eyed man, of course, is king. But how about a live wire, a smart businessman, in a civilization of 100% pure chumps?"

C. M. Kornbluth: The Adventurer
"For every evil under the sun, there's an answer. It may be a simple, direct answer; it may be one that takes years, and seems unrelated to the problem. But there's an answer--of a kind.... President Folsom XXIV said petulantly to his Secretary of the Treasury: 'Blow me to hell, Bannister, if I understood a single word of that. Why can't I buy the Nicolaides Collection? And don't start with the rediscount and the Series W business again. Just tell me why.' The Secretary of the Treasury said with an air of apprehension and a thread-like feeling across his throat: 'It boils down to--no money, Mr. President.' You can’t always get what you want. This is a nicely crafted futuristic politico drama - kind of like a prequel to the West Wing a century hence. Or is it a reveal behind the Wizard of Oz’s curtain outside of present day Kansas"

"C.M. Kornbluth tells a tale of success and failure in this story. The success of reaching the moon and the failure of putting atomic bombs there, hovering over every ones heads like a sword of doom. What of the men who did this?"

"The drilling rig had reached miles below the Atlantic ocean, relentlessly grinding downward towards the largest proven oil reserves on the planet. Atlantic oil was determined to be the first to tap it and so drove with frenzied purpose 24 hours a day. Atlantic Oil had immense resources and used them all to beat out the competition. Unfortunately the engineer in overall charge of the operations had grown just a tiny bit complacent in later years, becoming more of a political engineer than a practical engineer. And so it was that the tiny leak that started in the armored casings was not seen as serious at all. It simply could not be serious, his career said it was impossible. But the leak had other ideas."
