The mixture of tension, the fantastical and horror return in these 12 short stories set in the northern seaside town. Having read the first instalment of Twisted Scarborough I was curious to read the new collection and see what other mystical stories have been thought up. I wasn’t disappointed, from a struggling author’s dark deal with a storytelling mermaid, spirits kept alive by love locks attached to a bridge, playground games, tarot readers and more.
Once again using Scarborough’s landmarks, this collection of short stories ooze with tension, the uncanny, the bittersweet and the absurd. Each story is entertaining on the surface, but there’s plenty to ponder just beneath also. This is a weird and wonderful collection that will keep you turning the pages on a dark evening.
