This book will have you doubting your own memories.
James Cobb is a psychologist who gives talks on the subject of memories, and forgotten ones especially. He is asked by Joshua Fleischer to look into a forgotten memory of his, little does he know that this will have him doubting his own memories. The evening in Paris that Fleischer wants him to untangle culminates in the death of a young woman and James seems to get a different version of events from everyone he speaks to. Cobb feels he needs to get to the bottom of the mystery for his own sanity and to pacify some memories of his own that are threatening to resurface. I was taken in by some of the characters and thought I knew what had happened only for another to pop up and I was back wondering if he was ever going to know the truth.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book but did find it hard to follow in places however I am so glad I read it and will look for other books by this author.

Joshua Fleischer is a dying man wanting to clear his mind before he passes away. He needs the truth for something that happened forty years earlier in a Paris hotel, which resulted in the death of a young woman. He approaches an eminent psychiatrist, James Cobb, to help him find the truth with the aid of hypnosis. And so the story begins.
However, nothing is that straightforward. The more Cobb digs, especially after the death of Fleischer, the more tangled the web becomes. What I particularly liked was that just as you thought Cobb had uncovered the truth, another person involved has a different version, both of events and the individuals involved. One twist followed another.
It appears that everyone involved all those years ago had something to hide, not necessarily murder but secrets of their own. Finally, Cobb succeeds in unravelling the mystery of what happened in a Paris hotel room. Totally unexpected.
I very much enjoyed this book and found it most definitely had page turning quality. The more I read, the more I wanted to know the truth. I look forward to further novels from E O Chirovici. Many thanks to LoveReading for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Well I have to say this book was really intriguing! I read the first few pages late one night and wasn't sure if this was a book for me as straight away it seemed very challenging with lots of psychology references! However from the next time I picked the book up I was hooked. This book is like a clever path leading you winding through people's lives tryng to discover the truth, which as always is never easy to find! Through the whole book I wasn't sure where it was going to lead me but I knew for certain I didn't want to stop. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to explore people's minds from the safety of their armchair.
A brilliant mystery thriller that will keep you confused and intrigued until the clever conclusion.
I loved this book. It was so intriguing that for a good while I had no clue what had happened and I loved that. Sometimes it's nice to just go along with the confusion of a story happily waiting for it all to become clear when it needs to.
This is an excellent mystery thriller detailing different people's account of the same tragic incident many years before. Everyone's memory of the event is different so it keeps the story interesting. I can't recommend this book highly enough.

I had to suspend my disbelief a bit for this book, the many twists and turns, while enjoyable to read, felt less and less likely due to their sheer number. However, they also gave the book pace and suspense, and so this was a fun, thrilling read with one surprise after another, with nobody being what they seemed, and everybody with more than their share of secrets.
