I hadn't read the first book in this Ragdoll series, which was probably a mistake. So I recommend reading that first, then this book may be more enjoyable as you would know the characters better. The book started off well, a fast paced thriller, but gradually became more and more convoluted, and by the last few chapters I'd lost interest in what was happening and just wanted it to end. The book is mainly action, with little depth to the characters.
A fantastic book that has, quite honestly left me very frustrated. Because now I have to wait for the next book to be written to find out what will happen next to DCI Baxter.
dmittedly I haven't read Ragdoll, Daniel Cole's first book and the introduction to the trials and adventures of DCI Baxter and her team. However, I will definitely be fixing that soon!
Regardless of not having read Ragdoll, Hangman is a fabulous book that I couldn't put down, with twists and turns that hook you in to the plot and refuses to let up until the final page, ending on a cliffhanger and leaving you wanting more.
This in depth police/crime novel is filled with tension and trust issues. As I was reading I was trying to guess the motive of every character I came across. The plot will leave you guessing and asking questions right until the end. The series of horrific murders drive the plot forward. DCI Baxter and her team race to save lives as they scramble to find out who is pulling the strings in these mysterious double ""puppet"" and ""bait"" murders.
Wow! A cracking sequel to Ragdoll – yet totally a book on its own. You will feel the frustration, apprehension, fear of each character as the story progresses.

Having read Ragdoll, I was eager to read Daniel Cole's follow up book, and what a fantastic second book it is.

A man has been found hanging from Brooklyn Bridge with the word PUPPET carved into his chest and it isn't long before another body, is found with the word BAIT carved into his chest, and the body count is rising.
When Special Agents from America arrive to help with the case, Emily Baxter knows that this is serious.
With her dry humour and sarcastic, way, Emily is back and the reader is in for a treat, Hangman is a little darker than Ragdoll, but still as tense, and even if the reader is new to Daniel Cole, it makes no difference as, there are balanced recaps.
So do yourself a favour, grab a copy, you will be glad you did.
The most gripping book I have read in a long time. Fabulous story with great characters that I want to read more about.
It had me hooked from the very start. I genuinely struggled to put it down.
Even after reading the quite dark passages I was left really wanting to carry on !
The interaction of characters is great and at the risk of sounding repetitive you want to carry on reading about them and where they go on to. I hope we get to find out.
I would recommend anyone read this and also Daniels first book Ragdoll. I'm sure this is going to be another success with more to follow.
A brilliant read – a fast-moving, dark, funny thriller. Rather gruesome at times, but completely addictive. Highly recommended.
I loved Hangman – a brilliant read. A series of gruesome murders take place in London and New York, all apparently linked to a previous case, the Ragdoll murders (the subject of the first book in this planned trilogy). DCI Emily Baxter is called in to work on the case along with the FBI and CIA, because of her experience with the Ragdoll murders. Baxter is blunt, has no PR skills, is cynical and not too good at personal relations – but, of course, brilliant. Sounds familiar? Maybe – but Baxter is a more complex character, as is her CIA opposite number, Rouche. On one level this is a police procedural. However, there is much more to this novel. As well as being darkly thrilling, it’s also surprisingly funny and completely addictive. The story fairly races along with one climax after another, each more dramatic than the last, before the heart-stopping finale. I haven’t read Ragdoll yet, but will be remedying that oversight immediately. Highly recommended.

The very blunt DCI Baxter who you come to love joins forces with Rouche and Curtis - special agents sent from America to help on this case. However Baxter also has a friend helping her each step of the way in the background, Edmunds, who is the only person she trusts. Bodies are being found with the word “puppet” or “bait” engraved into their chests, and Baxter and team need to find out what these words mean, who is behind this and why.
The story is so tactfully written, which made me believe that it could of actually happened. The descriptions were brilliant, and half of the time felt like i was at the crime scenes! Rouche’s past draws you closer to him as a character and admire the friendship that blossoms between him and Baxter.
This book had my emotions on a string - excuse the pun! I found it very hard to put this book down. I have not read the Ragdoll as of yet, which is the 1st in this series, that will definitely be the next book i read! I am also hoping that a sequel to Hangman is being planned for the future, as i'd love to see more murder mysteries with DCI Baxter.

There are parts of humour, parts of gripping spine tingling chiller and parts of ‘who did it.’
