It operated North American P-51 Mustangs to fight the Luftwaffe of Nazi Germany. Born in the Bronx, Lenny learned to fly at Flushing New York City Airport and became a gifted fighter pilot, flying the P-40 Warhawk, P-47 Thunderbolt and A-36 Apache during his training. At RAF Debden he was assigned to the 334th Fighter Squadron. He scored two victories over the Luftwaffe. He flew his last combat mission on November 20, 1944. Leonard R. Werner crashed into the lake IJsselmeer in the Netherlands and was listed as missing in action.
