"Swan Song is sweet and warm and delivers a classically contemporary romance read."
A sweet, heartwarming fairytale romance adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen Classic, The Ugly Duckling. Romance is one of my favourite genres, so I am of course familiar with the multitude of fairytale reimaginings on offer. I can't say I’ve heard of one that reimagines the Hans Christian Andersen classic The Ugly Duckling but what an overlooked treasure trove it’s turned out to be, as demonstrated in Katy Regnery’s Swan Song. I loved the beginnings of Sasha and Vaughn’s relationship, they were so adorable, I was reading with a grin on my face. My heart broke slightly when I looked up and realised that the story was only just getting started. The middle section of the book made my heart ache for reconciliation. Incorporating the ballet world into the storyline was a lovely touch too. Although not directly related to the original story it seemed to be the perfect context in which to hold this story, especially with the references to Swan Lake. Other aspects of The Ugly Duckling are brilliantly interwoven throughout the story of Vaughn’s past, making Regnery’s adaptation considered and well-executed and yet also a heart warming fairy tale romance in its own right. Overall Swan Song is sweet and warm and delivers a classically contemporary romance read.
