Collected works believed to be written by, or or under the supervision of: King Alfred, Bishop Asser, The Venerable Bede, Ethelwerd, Gildas, Nennius, Archbishop Plegmund and several other members of the clergy, and many other unknown authors and translators. It spans English history from the period following the Roman era and the start of the Saxon rule, and into the Norman conquest and subsequent rule up to 1140.
