'And this is our chance to get back to where we belong. You and me.'
Drowning in debt, Colin and Deborah hatch a desperate plan to fake Colin's death in a canoeing accident in the North Sea. While Colin hides in plain sight, his 'widow' Deborah is forced to try to secure the life insurance payout. As the lies to family, friends and the authorities stack up, the pressure builds…
Inspired by real events, All At Sea is a funny, dark and thrilling deep dive into love, loyalty and just how far you'll go to stay afloat. Alison Carr's play premiered at Live Theatre, Newcastle upon Tyne, and the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough, in 2026, directed by Maria Crocker.
This volume also includes a short one-person play, The Soaking of Vera Shrimp, a poignant tale of love, grief and the nature of rainfall. It premiered at Live Theatre in 2014 and was subsequently performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
