ACE Your Life Unleash Your Best Self and Live the Life You Want is a helpful, uplifting 244-page book. The author writes in an enjoyable, easy-to-understand, logical way. From a young age, we learn to avoid discomfort at all costs. Our thoughts control how we feel and try to protect us from discomfort, but thoughts are not facts. We can get stuck in certain thought patterns due to core values and limiting beliefs. Making a positive change requires us to believe we can do it, possess the will to do it and have a plan to carry it out. Criticizing ourselves leads to decreased confidence and low motivation, therefore change is hard to accomplish. The author offers practical advice on how to transform our cognitive behaviour and our lives through her 3-step method “ACE”. This stands for acceptance, compassion and empowerment. Definitions, benefits, barriers, methods and strategies to master this method are given in an interesting, non-threatening way. I liked the author’s positive, encouraging style. The self-guided exercises and questions lead to self–reflection and enlightening insights. She also offers links to relevant guided meditations and a list of additional mindfulness resources. The summary tables are also excellent for reinforcing critical points. This practical book is a valuable tool for personal growth and I highly recommend it.
