"Visions of a past life leads a scholar on a magical realist quest to discover the lost scrolls of Hypatia of Alexandria and himself."
Visions of a past life leads a scholar on a magical realist quest to discover the lost scrolls of Hypatia of Alexandria and himself. Brandon lost his parents at an early age, but the inheritance they left him has allowed him to have a very comfortable life, pursuing whichever subject most interests him.
Dark memories of past lives lead him to past life regression therapy, during which he discovers the location of a hidden collection of scrolls. There’s peril and tension as the scrolls are retrieved, secret agendas are revealed and the work of Brandon’s parents becomes intertwined with a spiritual awakening.
This book has a lot to offer. There’s the quest to uncover and protect the hidden scrolls while working to decipher them. There’s a hunt to find the last relic Brandon’s parents were contracted to find before they died, and the more spiritual journey Brandon finds himself on that takes him around the world as he unlocks his psychic abilities.
Those who enjoy adventure will enjoy the twisting treasure hunts, the drama only just beginning when the items are found. Fans of metaphysical fiction could enjoy Brandon’s work to lose the self he thinks he is in order to find himself. There’s also something for fans of speculative history, with stories from the scrolls and flashbacks to Hypatia as we learn more about the mathematician, philosopher and astronomer.
Because this book handles many different threads I wouldn’t describe this fast paced book as light read, but it is an interesting blend of Indiana Jones style questing and a more spiritual search for identity.

In pursuit of the lost scrolls of Hypatia of Alexandria, a naïve scholar ventures on a mind-bending, existential quest. Despite being hounded by dangerous super-natural beings and possibly slipping into a psychotic break, he not only recovers the scrolls but finds himself and true love along the way. A mysterious stranger at a bar once told Brandon “to find yourself you’re gonna have to lose the self you think ya’ are,” and those surly words became the alpha to his astounding omega.
