Back in the late 1980s, the 1990s, and early 2000s, DJ mixtapes played a crucial role in hip-hop, born in New York City. They helped dictate what rap songs were hot in the clubs and in the streets, and they even influenced which artists would get played on the radio and signed to major label record deals. Maybe most importantly, they showcased which DJs had the most skills, and also who had the juice to pull the illest exclusives.
Do Remember!: Hip-Hop Mixtape Stories combines the best elements of oral and pictorial histories to explore the evolution of mixtapes and hip-hop culture in New York City. Featuring a comprehensive collection of rare mixtape cover art and exclusive ephemera combined with never-before-published stories, and playlists from the most popular and influential DJs, artists, producers, business owners, and personalities of the time, Do Remember! captures an era that would go on to inspire future hip-hop generations all over the world.
