Andy Millman is the world’s greatest actor who never was and probably never will be. Lumbered with a useless agent, Andy is forced to take parts that are nonspeaking, non-moving and largely non-acting, but he is determined to do whatever it takes to get himself noticed. Welcome to the world of the Extras…the only Extras release this year, The Illustrated Scripts comes complete with behind the scenes photography and gives fans the chance to learn all the quotes by rote.
The complete scripts of the award-winning series, with exclusive behind-the-scenes photographs by Rich Hardcastle. Meet Andy Millman, actor. Never forgets his lines because he never gets any. And meet Maggie Jacobs, actor. Would love to throw herself into a good part, but she's more likely just to put her foot in it. With an agent who works part-time at Carphone Warehouse, sometimes you have to take a small role on the path to acting fame. But now, after years spent struggling to make it big, Andy has landed a pilot for his sitcom script. Will he finally get the recognition he craves? Extras: the Scripts is the perfect memento for fans of the show and a stylish record of the astonishing writing talent of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
A British comedian with expert delivery of bone-dry comedy, actor Ricky Gervais became famous for playing the egotistical and much-despised office manager David Brent to perfection on the BBC series, “The Office†(BBC, 2001- ), which along with being one of England's best-loved sit-coms also made a major impression in the United States. Two-faced, hypocritical, lying and inept are just a few adjectives that have been used to describe Brent, and Gervais' portrayal is so spot-on he often founds himself working overtime off-screen to prove he isn't so vain or shallow himself—Indeed, Gervais has in the past shaved off the trademark goatee upon completing a season of filming “The Office" to help distinguish himself from his character.
Regardless of any aversions to being compared to Brent, Gervais certainly enjoyed the enormous success his series—co-created with one-time assistant Steve Merchant—including two Golden Globe Awards, one for Television Series, Comedy, the other for Actor in a Lead Role-Comedy (in a surprise upset, Gervais beat out popular U.S. actors including Matt LeBlanc).
