Selected by Sarah Broadhurst

Emotional, gripping and unafraid to deal with issues that challenge the reader's assumptions. A daughter witnesses her mother’s murder and then tries to emulate her life - but runs aground when secrets emerge that show her in a very different light. Her life is further complicated by the death of her best friend and the 11 year old daughter she now has to care for. Lives are shaped by tragic circumstances but living in the past and blaming someone else for your own troubles won’t help you move on.

An excellent read that will be loved by her fans and anyone who enjoys reading Jodi Picoult.

If you like Diane Chamberlain you might also like to read books by Anita Shreve, Heather Gudenkauf and Michelle Richmond.

Her Mother's Shadow by Diane Chamberlain

Lacey's mother was shot twelve years ago. Her killer is about to be released on parole. Only Lacey's statement can keep him in jail.

Lacey is facing the biggest decision of her life. Then her best friend dies in a car crash, leaving behind a grieving eleven-year-old daughter in need of a mother - a role Lacey's not sure she's ready for. Two lives rest on Lacey's choices.

Two lives only she can save.

About the Author

Diane Chamberlain

Award-winning author Diane Chamberlain, was born and raised in Plainfield, New Jersey, and attended Glassboro State University. She also lived for many years in both San Diego and northern Virginia, where she still resides.

Diane received her master’s degree in clinical social work from San Diego State University. Prior to her writing career, she was a medical social worker at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego and Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C. She also was a psychotherapist in private practice in Alexandria, Virginia., working primarily with adolescents. Diane’s background in psychology and her work in hospitals has given her a keen interest in understanding the way people tick, as well as the background necessary to create real, living, breathing characters.

Several years ago, Diane was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, which has changed the way she works: she occasionally types using voice recognition software. She feels fortunate that her arthritis is not more severe and that she is able to enjoy everyday activities as well as keep up with a busy travel schedule.

Diane has three married stepdaughters, three grandchildren and two shelties. She lives with photographer John Pagliuca in North Carolina where she's at work on her next novel.
