The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty

Sarah Broadhurst's view...

I was buying for a wholesale company when this first came out and placed a moderate order for it. Then I went to a private view of the film. It is the only time I have ever left such an event and doubled my order. The plot of demonic possession is probably well-known by everyone but the thing this book gives you, besides a hair-raising experience, is a deeper understanding of the Jesuit priest himself and his vision of life and death. This is genuinely scary stuff.

If you like William Peter Blatty you might also like to read books by Ken Bruen, Brian Moore and Morris West.

Synopsis

The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty

Father Damien Karras: 'Where is Regan'. Regan MacNeil: 'In here. With us'. The terror begins unobtrusively. Noises in Regan's room, an odd smell, the displacement of furniture, an icy chill. Easy explanations are offered. Then frightening changes start in the eleven-year-old girl. Medical tests shed no light on her symptoms, but it is as if a different personality has invaded the child. Father Damien Karras, a Jesuit priest, is called in. Is it possible that a demonic force is present in the child? Exorcism is the only answer...
