The divine Ms Thomas issues her own ‘10 commandments’, of which the most memorable are undoubtedly ‘Don’t starve yourself’ and ‘Allow yourself the occasional treat’. However, she does also ensure that her readers adhere to a few of the others by providing 100 recipes with reduced fat and sugar, no processed ingredients, added fibre and no ‘hidden calories’. There is even a calorie league, with the first recipes at 100 calories, the following at 200, and the 300-calorie dishes hidden away at the back of the book. Most of the recipes do look unexpectedly satisfying and interestingly international, and include such mouth-watering delicacies as fruity filo stacks, Indonesian chicken satay, Mexican beef salsa pot, Greek grilled halloumi and vegetables, Jamaican jerk chicken, chunky minestrone and Baileys banoffee custard.
