Gary Schwartz is an art historian specialized in Dutch art, mainly of the seventeenth century. His books on Rembrandt and Pieter Saenredam have been praised for the totality of their approach. In a new departure, he was guest curator at the Frans Hals Museum of the first exhibition ever held on emotion in Dutch painting of the Golden Age (2014-2015). His most recent book (2016) is devoted to Jheronimus Bosch, which like his other writings is distinguished by originality of observation and acuity of analysis.
