Twisted Scarborough

Author: J.B.Forsyth Format: Paperback Release Date: 03/09/2021

‘Twisted Scarborough’ by J.B. Forsyth is the latest in a series of horror-filled short story collections all based in Scarborough. In these 12 stories the reader will discover a strange clifftop cave, see the consequences of playing with a magician’s hat, an encounter with a Roman God and more besides in this delightfully chilling anthology. Expertly written, with plenty of tension, dark humour and cliff-hangers, these short stories are the perfect entertainment for a winter (or a summer) night. I liked ‘Books to Die For’ most for it’s ingenious twisting and warping of reality to suit this mysterious bookstore. Each story is unique, with their own characters, pace and tone. As I read I was excited to see what the next story would bring while also lingering over what might have happened at the end of the last. I can see myself and many other readers enjoying this collection from cover to cover and then returning to read and ponder over their favourites. There is horror here but it’s mixed with a perfect balance of brevity, tension, the uncanny and fantastical plot. The only way these stories will be keeping me up at night is to ponder over how much has been packed into so few pages, and what could have happened after the writing ended.

Twisted: Volume One

Twisted: Volume One

Author: J.B.Forsyth Format: Ebook Release Date: 02/08/2017

Twisted: Volume One is the first of three, soon to be four, books of well-crafted short stories by J.B.Forsyth, in which nothing is as it should be. The stories are powerful and haunting, with a sinister twist from the author's dark imagination. The five chilling fantasy stories are all set in and around Scarborough, with the sea and beach playing a leading part in the first, middle and last of the tales. The remaining two feature a scary bookshop and a man with an unusual and creepy superpower respectively. Reading this book sent shivers down my spine, without anything much being explicitly horrific. The author skilfully leads the reader along his chosen route that is truly 'twisted'. I would really recommend anyone who enjoys this genre to read this brilliant book. Absence: Whispers and Shadow

Absence: Whispers and Shadow

Author: J.B.Forsyth Format: Paperback Release Date: 01/04/2016

I LOVED this story!! It really took me away to another world. I loved the characters. We were told enough about them to empathise and picture them in our minds, but not too much detail that it was excessive. There are some great creatures described here. I loved the writing style and I think that it flowed beautifully. The vocabulary was incredibly descriptive and extensive, introducing me to a few new words along the way. Although ‘Absence: Whispers and Shadow’ is set in an alternate world, it had shades of the middle-ages and middle-age life, which I found interesting. I liked the details around what kind of work people did, how villages worked etc. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I really can’t wait for the next instalment! I would highly recommend this to others.  Amanda O'Dwyer, A LoveReading Ambassador
