Trevor Avery is an historian and curator based in Cumbria. It was a chance encounter and a half-forgotten memory that led him to devote two decades to uncovering the true story of the child survivors who came to the Lake District in 1945, and the local community that welcomed them. In 2005, Avery initiated the Lake District Holocaust Project and now produces, manages and curates the exhibitions at Windermere Library.

He was a primary research advisor for the BBC and Warner Bros 2020 film drama The Windermere Children and makes a personal appearance in the accompanying BBC and ZDF documentary The Windermere Children - In Their Own Words. He has worked as a producer for a number of short films on the Windermere survivors, including One Night from Prague (2022) and From Carlisle to Calgarth (2021). He also featured in Robert Rinder's 2018 BAFTA award winning episode of Who Do You Think You Are.
