Jurica Pavi?i? was born in 1965 in Split, where he still lives. He is a Croatian novelist, screenwriter, short-story writer and journalist. The author of nine novels and two short-story collections, he is known for his unorthodox thrillers and crime novels, which blend social analysis with insights into ethical dilemmas.
His novels have won several Croatian literary awards. Red Water, his first novel translated into English, was awarded the Ksaver Šandor Gjalski Prize for best Croatian novel in 2018, and the Fric Prize for best Croatian fiction in 2019. It also won the French Le Point award and the Grand Prix de LittératurePolicière for the best European crime novel in 2021. Mother of Sorrows was nominated for two prestigious Croatian fiction awards: the tportal and the Gjalski prizes.
