History of A Six Weeks' Tour: Through a part of France, Switzerland, Germany, and Holland: with Lett
"History of a Six Weeks' Tour (1817) is a volume of travel-writing by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley and Percy Bysshe Shelley. Comprising prose narrative, correspondence, and poetry, it is a highly engaging account of their 'adventures and feelings' during two journeys from England to Switzerland at the end of the Napoleonic Wars. 'I never knew—I never imagined what mountains were before.' History of a Six Weeks' Tour (1817) is a volume of travel-writing by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley and Percy Bysshe Shelley, two of the best-known authors of the English Romantic period. Comprising prose narrative, correspondence, and poetry, it is a highly engaging account of their 'adventures and feelings' during two journeys from England to Switzerland. The first part of History describes the titular 'tour' made by the not-yet married Mary and Percy in July-September 1814, when mainland Europe was once again accessible to British travellers at the end of the Napoleonic wars. The long descriptive letters which make up the second part of History recall the so-called 'Frankenstein summer' of 1816, some of which the Shelleys spent with Byron on the shores of Lake Geneva. This part of History also provides significant biographical and historical context for Mary's novels Frankenstein (1818) and The Last Man (1826), key sections of which are set in the Alps, and for two of Percy's most canonical poems, 'Hymn to Intellectual Beauty' and 'Mont Blanc', the second of which was published for the first time in History. This edition includes an introduction, detailed notes, maps, and appendices, placing the book in its historical and cultural context and showcasing the Shelleys' collaborative writing process."

With her is a dying man, a paralysed stranger she must try to save, and find a way back to civilisation for them both. What caused the explosion: accident or environmental terrorism? The injured man holds the answers, but he’s not talking. Jim Ross, Carrie’s only friend in the region and the stricken rig’s corporate director, is wrestling with both the catastrophic aftermath and his own guilty secrets. But it is only Ross who believes – against all evidence – that Carrie is alive. As the oil spill spreads beneath the ice, Ross battles to mount a rescue mission to find Carrie. But is his obsession merely a way to try to assuage his own terrible culpability?"

I wasn’t always a goddess, you see. My only real power was my beauty – you’ll have heard. It’s legendary. But that was never going to be enough for me. It took a web of lies to convince the gods of Olympus I was one of them. But I did. I was that good. Zeus gave me a title and riches and loved me. And all he wanted in return was for me to love him back. But of course, Zeus was a tyrant. (Not entirely surprising when you’re ninety per cent insecurities and ten per cent raw power.) I couldn’t live at someone’s mercy. Really, I had no choice. I had to take on the mightiest Olympian of all. After years missing at sea, Grace's cousin Charles is ready to come home. When Charles returns, unrecognisable and uncanny, a rift emerges between those who claim he is an imposter and Grace's aunt, who insists he is her son.
